Has anyone ever added tabs to a stamp album to divide it up by years? How did it work for you? Did it look good?

My opinion, don't do it. Makes it look like a building codebook.

I have to agree with fredcdobbs. When I moved my collection to 3-ring binders, I added year tabs. When you opened up a binder, it looked more like a business manual. Also, some of my pages are based on the subject and not year, for example some of the definitive sets. So, I removed the tabs. Not having tabs did not slow me down since I knew pretty well where everything was. I did number the binders (but not with a year). I also do keep air mail, postage due, etc. in their own binders.

I should add that the binders in which I have my few foreign stamps have the countries devided by tab sheets.

Wow! I just realized this reply is a milestone - my 100th post!

I would tend to agree that adding tabs for years would make an album a bit ugly looking. However, I have had success with using the Avery Ready Index Dividers to separate sections of a loose leaf album with various small collections. It has the color laminated tabs 1-5 or 1-10, etc., and a "Table of Contents" page where your printer can type in a detailed description of what is contained in each section of the album. It does work quite well for me, and if it gets to be too much, or I decide to change it later on, it's a simple task to remove the dividers and "Table of Contents" page and use it elsewhere.

Back to the basic old adage we use here: It's your collection; there's no right or wrong way to do it, so do it the way that pleases you. You have no one to answer to but yourself!

I do use Tabs between major types in my revenue collection. For my German collection I do not. If you do them by year you will significantly add to the number of pages and you may not like the way it looks.

But, as stated previously (by Wt1) it's your collection! You can do what ever makes you happy. That's part of the fun!
