The hoard fairy that brought me all those U.S. airmails visited again, but this time with some world material.

Seriously though, my local stamp dealer called me today and said he set out some bulk lots again. So I dropped by after work and cleaned up. One book of random and sundry, four stockbooks of used semi-modern Canadian (nothing necessarily valuable, but absolute boatloads of material... a packetmaker's delite!) and since he had sold me a Malta collection about 10 years ago, he set aside a book of Malta for me.

Packetmaking aside, books like these are great for finding socked-on-the-nose cancels... and the price is certainly right.

What I'm really waiting for are the 2 big stockbooks of Canada that contain the material earlier than the ones I bought. He's already showed me what he cherrypicked out of them, and my oh my...

Below are some representative pics.

Let the cancel/variety hunting commence!

Wow. Such volumes of material will keep you busy for quite awhile!

You may recall that in another thread, there were posts about the difficulty in finding good, clean socked on the nose cancellations on Canadian stamps ... it looks like you have quite a collection of them that may prove that statement wrong.

When going through that U.S. airmail hoard I bought, I found nice crisp SON cancels would only appear about 1 every 200-400 stamps, depending on the stamp. Then again, I'm pretty picky... if any of the cancel is illegible I usually throw it back.

Great haul there revenue collector. I see quite a few Malta there which are holes in my collection. I wonder if you are open to trade or purchase of such

Have a good one.

So, how does one summon up the hoard fairy,
I know we leave a tooth under the pillow for her sister,
do we leave a crisp $100 bill?, a bluebell bootee ?
a felt hat with a tiny bell? empty glassines?

There's some very nice stuff in there - how about 25 or so copies of the Canada $1 Chateau de Ramezay? Have a look at the backs of those stamps - some of them were printed in analine ink and the image soaks through the paper.

And you have a number of complete Canadian "chewing gum" booklet panes, those funny little horizontal strips of 3.

And more Labuan in one spot than I've ever been able to come across ...

Well I got called back today to buy the early material. Unfortunately he's not willing to let go of the Canadian provinces material, which is where the bulk of the really "fun" material is.

I bought the 3 stockbooks he brought in of early Canada. Not cheap by any means, just due to the amount of materal.

The early 19th century material through the large queens is quite a bit beat up, but the sheer volume of the late Victoria through King George material is astounding. No real high-dollar singles, but loads of $5-$50 material. Excluding the early Victoria entirely, it's still about $18,000 in Scott.

I'm in a quandry what to do with it all, including the volumes shown above.

1. Cherrypick the cancels and then flip the whole kit and kaboodle as a single lot (here, Bidstart, or ebay).

2. Cherrypick it and make country lots/packets out of the rest, either with or without the best singles (which could conceivably be sold as singles or sets).

3. Sit down with Unitrade and start delving into color shades and varieties and take my time with it over several years.

#1 would be the most expedient, while #2 and #3 would be the most labor-intensive, with #3 probably the most fun over the long term.

Decisions, decisions...

I'm a sucker for Can Lrg queens in just about all but torn in half conditions and can always add to the smalls as well. Cherry pick away then let me know what the table scraps are! Sad I don't have a stamp dealer for at least 200 miles just to pop in and bribe with a coffee or donut.

Why not go for the fun? If you decide its not as much fun as you thought it would be, you can still do #1 or #2.
