As I was putting my DWI collection into the "Big Blue" album, I noticed a frame oddity in the 1874-79 numerals. Now I am a general classic WW collector, not a specialist. The proverbial know a little about everything, but not much about something.

So here I believe is a Scott 6e, an inverted frame thick paper 3c blue & carmine. (BTW, all these examples are Perf 14X13 1/2, not Perf 13, so these examples are not the 1896-1901 issues)

Next, is a "normal" normal frame 4c brown & dull blue.
Pay attention to the vertical arabesque in the left upper frame.

Finally, here is an "odd" normal frame Scott 5 1c green & brown red. Spot the missing part of the branch coming from the vertical arabesque in the upper left frame?

The 2011 Scott Classic Specialized catalogue says nothing about this. A plate flaw? Comments would be appreciated.

Nice approach to collecting and inspection.

I have issues with apparent "flaws" on any stamp
that has achieved postal duty, it comes with an absolute myriad
of problems with "damage in transit"

One needs to inspect the stamp under UV to establish
the area of the flaw does not evidence any outside influence,
I think your stamp is an ideal candidate.
It certainly looks kosher, but still may be an EFO

To rate as a flaw, it must be consistant with other stamps
in the same position on the printing plate.
It has to be substantiated with other examples.

There are quite a few sublistings for that stamp in the Facit catalog. I only saw one listing for a pearl flaw, but that was for the upper right corner. I'm not very good at filtering the English in the Facit, so perhaps someone else with a Facit catalog can look through it more carefully and see if they see a plate flaw listing that might match your stamp.

I didn't see anything in Facit, either (but, for the same reason as k, that doesn't mean it isn't there).

Thanks to khj and cjd for a lookup in the Facit.

I was expecting it was an obvious "known" plate flaw.

I'm not a flyspeck hunter or an EFO enthusiast, so absent more information, I will let it lie.
