I have a King Edward VII 1d red (SG219 or 210, Scott 128 1p scarlet) with an Imperial Crown perfin. Can anyone identify this? Is this an official perfin?

Hi Perivale, How many holes are there in the crown?

I'll have a look in my catalogue when I get home from work if no-one else has answered by then.

Hi Perivale,

Home from work at last - it's been a long day!

I though there would a quite a few crown perfins listed in my catalogue which is why I asked about the pin count. However, there is only one listed: 63 pins (!), 12mm high, James Russell & Sons, Crown Tube Works, Wednesbury, Staffs, recorded in use 1890-1930 which fits your KEVII 1d scarlet.

There may well be other GB crown perfins that haven't been identified yet (or have been identified since my 1998 edition).

Is there any chance you could post a scan of your stamp so we can see it?

I have an article somewhere,
and have posted it here before, of a strange dotted
crown postmark.
It stumped a few people, before someone realised
that someone had used a crown perfin and marked the dots
onto another stamp in black ink, forming a "postmark"
I cannot locate it at the moment.

Thhnaks to "agent ransack"

Bump!

Hello Perivale,

Could you post a scan of your perfin stamp please? I'd really like to see what it looks like.
