Amos Publishing is again offering scratch & dent copies of 2011 Scott Catalogs at a considerable discount ($24.99 each) at this link:

Unfortunately, I just called their Customer Service Department and the U.S. Specialized Catalog is sold out, but they apparently do have the A-Z country volumes as noted in the above link.

I would recommend calling them again next week. The scratch-n-dent inventory fluctuates as damaged catalogs are discovered or orders are returned/cancelled...

Thanks for the good advice! Actually it took a few weeks but my perseverance paid off as I spotted one that came up on their website and immediately called their 800# to order it (and it was their last one, too.)

It just came to me today. Perfect catalog except for a crease in the front cover as shown in this highlight. (I get worse books offered to me in retail stores all the time, so this sort of thing doesn't bother me in the least) ... and at $24.99, I saved more than 41% off the retail price.

If I had waited for the 2012's the price would have even been more, as there is a price increase this year, too.

So all in all, it was a great value and I can finally retire my decade old Scott Specialized Catalog that's literally falling apart!

Now I wish I had followed my own advice!

What is the U.S. Specialized Catalog?
I guess I am asking, what is "specialized" in it?

Also, does Scott have page supplements that you can buy?
I have 2008 catalog set and wondered if they sell the lastest pages for the 09, 10, 11 etc?

thank you,
SueStamps

The Specialized does have a LOT of categories and information not in the standard catalog.

Here's a screenshot of the Table of Contents -- this isn't everything, part of it is cropped to get the image to fit ...

Ah well, no supplements. I didn't think so, but thought I would ask. Thank you for letting me know.

Also, thanks for the scan. I looked up on ebay and the 2012 Scott US Specialized is $78.95, free shipping. Where else can I look to buy one?

I checked online but I don't see Scott Catalog having their own website? But they must right?

Thank you,
SueStamps

thank you KirkS!
I see they sell all sorts of fun stuff.
I was looking at the hingeless pages, but they don't have images for them. I will have to look at them.

I was looking at the hingeless stamp pages...
Looks like there are different types. I saw one in the google iimages, and looks like it is a clear small sheet that just covers the stamp.

Does the stamp just stay in place by putting the cover back on it?

Sue:

The image you posted shows clear "top loading" mounts. Other hingeless albums use mounts which are closed at top and bottom, but split in the back to allow you to load the stamps.

The downside of top-load is that you worry the stamp will fall out -- the plus side is that sometimes a stamp seems about 1/2mm too tall to fit in the other mounts and if you force it in there, it will wrinkle.

Here's a pic of the split-back, in this case black, not clear.

Watch this video and everything will be clear...

Hi KirkS,
Thank you for the link to the video. You are right, now it all makes sense. I did not know that the mounts had a sticky top part on the back of them.

I was wondering, do they make them in clear front and backside? So if I flipped the mount over, I could examine the backside?

Also, do they make side mounts, sticky back on the side not top?
Thank you,
SueStamps

Actually, the entire backside (both flaps for the split-back mounts) is gummed. Most collectors choose to wet only the top half, as that makes it easier to insert/remove stamps. There are advantages and disadvantages to wetting one flap or wetting both flaps.

Yes, they do. They are called clear mounts (as opposed to black mounts). However, it's not a good way to examine the backside. You won't get a good view, and you risk creasing the stamp. Better to remove the stamp completely, and then examine backside. If you need to frequently access the back side, you need to be using clear album/stockpages instead of mounts on paper album pages.

Just select the mount size sideways. There's no difference in type of mount, only how you orient the stamp/mount.

Thank you so much for the information. Now I know what to look for.

I searched for clear pages, and came up with this on ebay, brand new, 5 sheets for $4.25 + $2.95:
Stocksheets VARIO 7 PKT,1 side, Clear (5 PKS)(V7C)

I am going to buy them.
I really appreciate it!

Sue,

FYI, if you are going to order anything from Scott's, AKA Amos Press, I would suggest that you subscribe to to Linn's or another magazine to take advantage of the AmosAdvantage discounts. Typically, its a 30% discount and your 1st order usually pays for the subscription.
