I just won these nicely cancelled blocks on ebay.

I know they are CTO and the story about the cancels from reading ROSSICA, but I think they are quite cool.

BeeSee,

regarding the scarcity of the 15k on pelure paper, I was merely stating the remark of Alexander Epstein. However, I tend to trust his expertise on this and other issues.

My copy of the 15k definitely looks and feels like pelure paper, but I do not know if there is any reason to get overexcited.

Your cancelled blocks of 4 look nice - good reference material of the cancels discussed in the literature, irrespective of their origin.

Enjoying your threads on Russia

Next (if any) map we get, can we show where Pskov lies please

The more astute Russian historians
may confirm or edit this, but it seems the following are

They depict some White Russian Generals (and Admiral) from the Russian Civil War:

Gen Alekseev (green)
Gen May-Mayevsky (blue)
Admiral Kolchak (red, orange)
Gen Konilov
Gen Denikin

Hi Rodney,

This is one of my favourite sets - I have a set on my desk at the moment!

The brown stamps is of Lavr Georgiyevich Kornilov though to my eyes his name looks misspelt on the stamp.

Dr Ceresa describes this set as "entirely bogus and probably printed in Italy in 1921/1922". Apparently there are many errors in the slogans and he says this suggests these stamps "were fabricated by foreigners with a poor grounding in Russian."

Thanks Rod, I saw your scan - it expanded nicely in my browser.

There appears to be an intrusive "A" in Kornilov's name but it is definitely his picture. Here's another picture and some interesting background on his life:

Thanks for posting those generals, Rod - nice cinderella's.

I am working on a map for the Russian North - Northwest Armies and will post it when finished - similar to what I did for Central Lithuania.

I have some commentary, I cannot vouch for the accuracy
but you are welcome to that as well,

I quickly modified this Google capture to show Pskov, Gdov and Yamburg, captured by the Army of the North.

Very nice map, BeeSee. Thank you!

Moloskovitsy, the village/railway station whose canceller was used on the first OKCA stamps you showed, lies to the east of Yamburg (Kingisepp), along the axis Narva-Yamburg.
