I have obtained this stamp from New Zealand, which gives me some problems with its classification...From what I saw in the commonwealth catalogue, there are 2 issues of this stamp, one in 1935 (Wmk 43, 14x13 1/2 perf.) and another in 1936 (Wmk 98, 14x13 1/2 perf. + variants). My model corresponds to 14x13 1/2 perf. but it does not have Wmk, in the Commmonwealth catalogue, it says in this regard that Wmk 48 disappears in the margins of the sheet (or failing that, "NEW ZEALAND POSTAGE" appears). Guided by this, should I classify my stamp as: Wmk48 with position on the margin of the page? Does this detail make it as desirable as an inverted mark? Perhaps another detail to take into account is the cancellation of 1942/3, but having only 1 year of difference between emissions I don't think it is relevant.

At the bottom, in the centre, it appears like there is the reversed 'Z' that appears in the watermark. Since you are looking at the back, a reversed 'Z' corresponds with the normal watermark.

I think you should have a closer look to identify the watermark, as it is there. Considering the stamp was cancelled in what looks to be 1943, maybe 1942, it is highly unlikely to be from the 1935 issue to start with.

Thanks NSK!! I have been able to see the Z...but this is what I get with developer liquid...I can't see anything else...

Another question that maybe you can help me with about the stamps of New Zealand, this… I found this note in the commonwealth catalogue: "the term "mixed" is applied to stamps from sheets which were at first perforated 14, or 11x14, and either incompleteness or defectively perforated These sheets were patched on the back with strips of paper and re-perforated 11 in those parts where the original perforations were defective."…how do you tell if an 11perf stamp is "mixed" or not?

It will have a strip of paper attached to the back and there is a perforation 11, where the paper is doubled.

Also, where the reperforation at gauge 11 corrects a previous perforation gauge 14, the front and back perforations will not be the same. On the front you should see at least some perforation holes that give away the reperforation.
