Interesting pic of the postal box. Are there any known covers that went elsewhere other than Poland ? |

Excellent post office pictures Kwidzin. Quote: Offices at the station and the port did not support individual customers. A couple of questions: 1. Is the station a train station Dumb question, it obviously is 2. Who used these post offices if not individual customers? Thanks. |

Once again I apologize for my language limitations prevent a detailed explanation. JkjblueTo tell the truth I don't know. I have seen 'Port Gdansk' overprinted stamps used in Poland as the polish stamps. Also are known internal shipment with polish stamps (without 'Port Gdansk' inscription). BeeSee1.) Yes, it is. Station is a central train station called Danzig Hauptbahnhof. 2.) Gdansk 2 had the task of exchange mail between the post offices in Poland with Great Britain, Post of Danzig, and Polish Post in Danzig and operate the polish railway mail on the territory of the Free City of Danzig (postal ambulances: Danzig-Kartuzy, Danzig-Koscierzyna, Warsaw-Danzig and few more). Gdansk 3 (Port Gdansk) had the task of exchanging mail between the port of Danzig and the Poland (delivery from USA and Great Britain). Curiosity. Everything in Danzig Free City was described in German or less in Polish. I have in my collection an alcohol bottle produced for export to USA with only english inscriptions. It was quite rare in those days. |

Few words about this nonpostal stamp: This stamp was issued by Macierz Szkolna in Free City of Danzig (School Motherland educational association) and was extra paid offered by polish post officers. I know School Motherland is quite stupid name, but I think it is the most accurate translation. Macierz is Motherland in Polish, like Ojczyzna is Fatherland. By the way among others I graduated from Macierz Szkolna High School. |

I think the mail and other items took and brought the tugboat sailing every sunday from Gdynia-Oksywie Naval Base, but I'm not sure. |

Hello all, This is a very interesting Topic about this small country. Here is my contribution, photos of my collection of Danzig (till 1920) : Many stamps of this country have low CV, used stamps with nice postmarks are rare. Many forged overprints exists for higher CV. I could not find any good web references about the forgeries identification, it could be very helpful if ever someone has any documentation about forged overprints. Regards. Billys. |

Bought them yesterday BeeSee, 20c each how could I pass that up? :) I attended the Eaton (western australia) stampfest, what a bang up job! Chicken and salad lunch, followed by carrot cake cream and strawberries (lunch was free) Nice friendships renewed, a raffle with about 20 prizes (pot plants) and an auction where I was buying a hagners sheet full of contemporary German stamps for 50c (my duplicates will go to Dianne Earl) To the people of the Eaton stamp club...Bravo! |
