Very nice thread! Beautiful pictures. Keep em coming!

I am in the same boat as are a few other members, not enough $$ for a complete set of anyone's catalogs!

I hear you about the Library, but the nearest Library of any significances is 125 miles to the NE of me! LOL

The Maiden's Tower (Turkish: Kiz Kulesi), also known as Leander's Tower, is a tower lying on a small islet located at the southern entrance of the Bosphorus strait in Istanbul, Turkey. First constructed in 1100, but destroyed and rebuilt several time since, the tower has been variously used as a watchtower, a lighthouse, and a quarantine station. The current Maiden's Tower is masonry construction, and it has an octagonal prism with a cupola, with a focal height of 23 m (75 ft), and red or white flash, depending on direction, every 3 seconds. Here is an image of a stamp depicting the Maiden's Tower, printed by lithography, and issued by Turkey (Ottoman Empire) on January 14, 1914, Scott No. 256, plus a photo of the current tower. Trivia note: The Maiden's Tower was featured in the James Bond film The World Is Not Enough (1999).

Although technically NOT a stamp, here is a piece of postal stationery showing a lighthouse. This was issued by JERSEY in 1982. It shows "La Corbiere Lighthouse". Jersey has a few other LH stationery issues. If any interest, I can look them up and see if I have them. Enjoy.

They moved our lighthouse to Edgartown out on Martha Vineyard back in 1935. They have five; we have zero.
