Any interest in chatting over Perfins issued in Austria during the Austro-Hungarian Empire Era (1850 through 1918)? This can also encompass all Perfins used in Levant during that period. I have a mediocre collection of these issue (and building) but thought it would be interesting to me and others to share information obtained during ones collecting of these early items from Austria. What say? Bob

Here are my two: Incidentally, I'm bidding on a lot of Austrian stamps at the moment which includes a stamp that has the same perfin as that shown just above, except that it's inverted. |

Austrian Levant Type 3 Wiener Bank Verein Constantinople Smyrna (after 1908-1913) Scan is "blah" probably 8 years old when I had a poor scanner. (Punctures are inverted possibly due to operator folding the stamp sheets double for improved performance) Bank documents from internet |

Hi Rodney, As it's an Austrian stamp I'd guess your WBV perfin is from one of the bank's office in Austria rather than in Turkey. The perfin is the right way up. |

Okey Dokey... Here are scans of Austrian Perfin Pattern LN. This pattern is of "Lidove Noviny" Newspaper in Brno, Czechoslovakia! This explains the 2 Newpaper stamps (row one) perfinned in this pattern. Row 2 are a few more of this Perfin on "regular" Austrian stamps of the period. The item has a L70 number in the Austria Catalog, and an L18 number in the Czechoslovakia catalog. Note: Brno can be seen on the 30 Heller stamp (at least the "B" and the "O" of the name), as well as on the 60 Heller stamp. There you go, will post a few more later. Bob |
