Every now and then, I too get a surprise with the special stamps that are used on mail addressed to me by some
ebay sellers, and other on-line auctions as well. The standard regular stamp auction houses are also a good source for these too.
Some years ago while I was at the local post office checking for my mail, I had a notice in the box stating "Parcel too large, pick up at booth" or words close to that effect <G> , so I went to the clerk behind the counter and handed him the above mentioned card. This was back in 1977 (not that this was my last surprise I mean) and I was expecting lots I had won from New Zealand. While talking to the clerk, I noticed in the shelves at the back that there was a parcel there with a S/S of Queen Elizabeth's 25th reign as queen (Scott #620) and a lot of other commemoratives on it as well. I thought to myself, what lucky guy is receiving that one?? To my surprise, it was my mail and that was a real beauty.
Latterly, I have been getting the odd other US, European or Canadian S/S on mail from different auction house etc. I think this is what 'could maybe' keep the hobby more alive if more of us were to receive parcels etc like that in the mail.
