Hi im just wondering about the cancellation on this stamp.
it so different from how they usually look.
I believe it to be genuine.
mayby it was something the belgians used in antartica.
Have you seen something similar on stamp from belgian antartica.

best regards mrmagic

Not seen that one before,
very unusual and attractive.

Looks similar in design to the shapes on the
Belgian Pizza Wheel

Hi memagic

I believe they refer to this type of cancellation as "Life Saver" ones, close to their Dutch counterparts but varying in design a little. I have seen this type from other Belgian cities but this is the first I heard about them being used in the Belgian Antarctic.

This is a regular Belgian stamp, SG 1201 from 1947, marking the 50th anniversary of a Belgian Antarctic expedition.

I found this interesting article on the 1897-99 expedition:

I see that Roald Amundsen served on this expedition as first mate!

How fascinating...
"Life Saver" is so appropriate,
anyone who has sucked on one of those lollies
must know the design.
Nice one Bujutsu...
