Jim (jkjblue) said in another thread he wouldn't expect there to be many stamps that portray smoking. I think he's underestimating you topical collectors So just for a fun challenge, let's see some stamps with cigarettes, cigars, or pipe smokers. Here's the one Jim posted...

True, I haven't seen many stamps that depict smoking/smokers. It was a bit of a shock when I found the Ecuadorian stamp with the ringside spectators smoking; although of course in the 1930s when this stamp was issued it was a realistic scene. So bring out your... smokers?! |

I'm not sure if this thread is to include cartoon characters, but if it is, don't forget that Popeye, with his trademark pipe, is pictured on this US issue: |

I always imagined Popeye smoking a corn cob pipe. I much prefer meerschaum myself. |

Community Health 14th March 1990. At the beginning of Feb this year after smoking for over 40 years and a habit of 50 smokes a day I stopped smoking. That is approx 13,300 cigarettes I have not smoked. I can breath again, it is so nice. Now that took some anger management. |

American smoker: FDR on SC #1950 issued 1982. Having trouble with scanner, maybe someone else can post it.

I think Cuba issued a whole series with cigars and their tobacco industry. I'm at work now so I don't have access to my catalogs or collection. I'll check when I get home tonight.
KGV: Congrats on being smoke free. I stopped back in November of last year after smoking for about 20 years. Fortunately, I cut back from the pack and a half of marlboro red "cowboy killers' to about two packets of lights a week. (I used to tell people I liked lights because I wanted to die slowly!) My wife quit at about the same time. Now I'm at zero. My clothes, house, and sorroundings smell better. I've got more money for stamps. I didn't realize how bad it smelled and felt until after I quit and was around smokers. |
