Started at 7 (don't recall any of that. But been told so and got the date in my first stamp album ! )...
Stopped at 17 (Zero income and active college-work-social life !)...
Resumed at 32 (very early mid-life crisis! )
35 at the moment !

Collecting since I was 4 or so, right after kicking the shoebox full of foreign stamps. I'm 59 now.

Almost 57. My dad got me started collecting when I was about 10. Got away from it when I went to college. Got back into it about 12 years ago.

I'm 56 now.

I started collecting at ripe old age 11 with the proceeds from my first job (paper route), with a little help from my dad and of course, H.E. Harris.

Here's a link to the 2007 APS survey:

About time they did this again isn't it?

Jeff

Focus groups were done in Portland in August 2016 at the APS show and a survey was done in the fall of 2016. The direct link for the survey report is at https://stamps.org/userfiles/file/r...-Report.pdf; other documentation is available under the "plans and reports" heading under the "business and finance" heading of the "About APS" tab from the home page.

I'm 40. Started collecting 3 years ago, when I inherited my grandfather's modest world wide collection.

Similar to Stampmaster, I'm 70 and started at about age 9 or 10. Started collecting "the world" and by middle school focused on Japan. Later Germany and her forerunners, colonies, et cetera. About 20 years ago I "took over" my dad's USA collection. All save the Japan album was sold to help pay college expenses for my sons.

The last study I saw on this pegged the average stamp collector age in the mid-50s.

In fact, the "APS Stamp Collector Survey 2007" lists the average age of their members as 65 with 70% of their members over 60.

I like being considered a young kid in the APS survey. I probably could have taken a free pack of stamps in their lobby marked "kids only" LOL.
