This Red Jack is the stamp on Patricia Kauffman's web site. I wish I had more Confederate stamps and covers. I don't recall seeing the Red Jack very often. SCV is $70 mint with gum and $350 used (with a legit cancel from the Confederate era). On cover SCV is $1500. Still I think a lot of the Confederate used stamps and covers are cheap and due for an increase. The mint stamps are more common than postally used copies because there were unused remainders left over after the War. |

Recently I pulled this #73 on cover out of an APS sales circuit for $30. Perhaps it was a pre-printed reply envelope to pay property taxes. It has a nice "Sandwich, Mass." town cancel: |

Once again nice piece of history Tom! I feel like I should dig out my snowshoes and treck on down there to see if I can get me some of that history. I think I'm going to have another look at my American stash to see what oldies are in there. Here's to hoping. |

Keep this one away from the small children. Lots of good lead paints for your painting projects. |

Here is something I picked up today: These are unused, no gum. Note the diagnostic star on the cheek (his left), that indicates these stamps were produced by Die III. |

That is an impressive piece! I don't recall seeing many large multiples of the Black Jack.

Thanks--the most I've seen is a six so far before today, but I'm sure there are some sheets out there. |

I enjoyed meeting Patricia Kauffman in Hartford! I asked if she had any Red Jacks on cover. Well she had a few and I came home with this one. On this cover the 2c Red Jack paid the local rate in Richmond, Virginia and has a September 23, 1863 (year of issue) dated postmark. |

Yes I am very happy to have a Red Jack (CSA #8) on cover. Most definitely made it worthwhile. I wish I had asked Patricia to estimate how many Red Jacks exist on cover.
