Traditionally, I've never had much luck finding stamps on Craigslist, so I rarely check. Yesterday, I checked on a whim and was pleasantly surprised to find the following lot ...

2x Minkus Global Supreme albums and two stockbooks containing more than 5000 stamps for $100 (less than .02 per stamp). It was late when I got home with them and didn't have much time to look through them, but have already seen some good early used DDR and FRD with cat values of $1 to $30. I can't wait to get home from work and continue browsing. This will keep me busy for awhile!

Picture from Craigslist ad ...

Another Craigslist bargain - NOT!

"35 mint sheets of stamps, mostly from 1990-2005. I do have the 1976 Commemoration Sheets. I also have 35 or more first day covers to sell along with the sheets. Some are 1950-1970, while others are 1990-2005. All for 400 obo!"

nbuckeye, that's what I normally expect from Craiglist ... extremely inflated prices from un-knowing sellers. Of all the listings I viewed yesterday, there was only one that wasn't outrageously priced (and I bought it :)

In my conversation with the seller of the lot I purchased, I learned that she went to the public library and spent some time looking up the values of some of the older material ... which seems the logical thing to do, imo. Unless you are in the know, who would think that (in the case of Germany) used stamps from the late 1940s are worth more than mint stamps from the 1910s to 1920s or (in the case of China) that stamps from the 1960s and 1970s are generally worth far more than those of the late 19th century?!?

She also eluded to lurking around online forums and auction sites trying to assess the value of the collection before coming up with the price.

I only took a look at US, Canada, and Germany (the 3 countries in which I can easily identify uncommon issues) last night, so have lots of work left just to assess the overall collection.

Wow that's a really good find. Every time I see stamps on CL it's always "offer". When they finally get around to a price it's ALWAYS sky high($1,500 for an album lol). Rage takes over me and I don't check again for a few months. Rinse and repeat.
