Hi All

I was wondering if there is a topical book out about dogs on stamps. my wife collects those and she checked the American Topical Association (A.T.A.) and did not see one in there. Maybe there is one that is out of print??

If anyone knows of one, would you please let us know?

Wow - this posting is a milestone for me because I hit #1000!

Great forum.

Thank you Alejandro

That is exactly what my wife is thinking of doing - starting her own book on a list of dog stamps.

Bujutsu:

I'm surprised the ATA doesn't have a list -- in fact, I would expect it to be a HUGE list.

If you want to start your own list, I'll pitch in -- when I get home tonight, I'll grab my Unitrade and go page-by-page. Now if you can find about 300 more volunteers to do one country each ....

Oh, and here's a teaser for your wife...

Kirk: is that the black 1894 Newfoundland Scott#58 Newfie dog or the later grey black 1898 issue?

Cynical -- sorry about that -- it's the 58, taken right from Canada Post Archives. Notice the black slash through the 1/2.

Thanks all for your help here.

I didn't realize that Domfil had a book like that. I will pass this information back to my wife.

The Newfy dog stamp is a nice one to say the least and we both have it in our collections. I also picked up a large card with the same design.

Hello,

was going to let you know re the Domfil catalogue but pleased to see I have been beaten to it.

Seems a good price on the link given as the only one I found on addall.com ( a good site for book searches) was from Amazon.com at $80 US.

Best wishes,

Brian.

PS.Have a good few hundred different dog stamps....my wife and I are both interested. We also have a Border Collie and a Bearded Collie.

Hi Brian and welcome to the forum

What I am wondering about the Domfil book is, does it only cover stamps from 1996 close to present day, or does it cover all dog stamps?? If this is so, then my wife is seriously considering compiling her own list. She has been collecting dogs on stamps now for about 6 or 6 years.

We are also a registered kennel but are dropping out of the scene now and keeping our dogs we have at present. About 80% plus are in double digit years now and it would be a crime to place them, and they are really family and we couldn't part with them. We have a number of dogs and cats :) We used to have a Border Collie years ago named Caesar, and he was a great dog.

My wife has several hundred dog stamps as well, plus her sea and marine life on stamps keeps her busy. She also collects the Vatican as well.

My interests are Canada, Belgium, Great Britain, Germany, US airmails only, Hawaii and martial arts on stamps - + many other interests They all keep me out of trouble lol.

I've seen some of the Domfil catalogues (not this), as they're manufactured quite nearby home (20 km). Usually, they cover all stamps known on the subject. For instance, the british dog stamp shown on the cover is from 1990.

Hello Bujutsu and everyone,

If you were to compile your own listing then I would be happy to help with scans of items from my collection / stock.

But why confine yourself to just stamps, (if you had all the time in the world)? as there have been many cigarette cards, trade cards, postcards, cigar bands, labels posing as stamps etc etc depicting dogs and many are very nice and well designed,(some are atrocious and they make you wonder if the artist has ever seen a dog at all let alone the breed that is supposedly pictured!)

Best wishes,

Brian.
