That's a nice stamp, a shame
the printers name is allowed to be emblazoned
in the vignette area.
Bad practice.
I think Cook's log is on display somewhere in Aust
right now.

The U.S. issued these on January 20, 1978 to commemorate the 200th anniversary of his arrival in Hawaii and Alaska (they are Scott 1732 (dark blue) and 1733 (green).

Rod, what is the story behind the spelling of Cook's name in the items you posted?

Hi Clint,
sorry about that, should have explained,
as you see in the image of the error on the NZ stamp,
a New Zealand Stamp Club was started with a magazine called
after the error.

What caught my eye was the breadth and depth of the magazine
a very well organised club with a fantastic history
in it's magazine pages.

BTW Tomis, thanks for that image,
I wasn't aware those two came in se-tenant form.

Bumping this topic. At a stamp show today, one dealer had about 100 covers of the first New Zealand - USA flight in December, 1937. The fronts were all postmarked December 29, 1937. The receiving mark on the back is San Francisco, Jan 6, 1938.

Knowing about the COQK variety, I carefully looked through each. I was able to get 2 covers, each with one copy, as shown below. Due to the cancellation date, I am assuming Scott 215 (SG 589a). If it was Scott 197(SG 568a) it would be worth considerably more.

It should also be noted that this is one of the more difficult issues to check correctly for perforations. It is actually stated as 13-14 x 13 1/2. This means the horizontal perforations are 13 for one half the length, and 14 for the other half. I don't know how this happened, but it is quite confusing.

Here is a closeup of one of the COQK stamps, showing the plate variety a little better.
