My catalog says, that after a monetary reform in 1955 many reimpressons were made of stamps issued till that year (1949-1955). It also says some reimpressons are very hard to distinguish. On my stamps down there are number in brackets-(29)/(86)/(87)/(88).Guess these are catalogue numbers of the original stamps, so these are reimpressons(?).Is known how many reimpressons were made?

How can I find which year these reimpressons were made?

Wadmalatz,

The numbers at the bottom are on both the originals and reprints. That is what makes identification difficult.

Scott Catalogue says that the Mao issue is a reprint if there is a single curved and a dot in the jacket button. If there is no dot then it's an original. There is a fuzzy illustration, but I don't see the dot, so it's pointless to include it here.

The reprints are of "commemorative and special issues up to the gymnastics set of 1952." So your doves are not reprints.

The reprints were prepared after the "currency revaluation of March 1, 1955" and "put on sale by the Philatelic Agency in order to supply stocks of exhausted issues for collectors."

That's all Scott has to say on the matter.

Thanks very much, that`s new to me, the image in the Y&T doesn`t show bottom numbers. I found the dot, so it`s reimpresson. I was hoping it will be easier...

Note that the Mao stamp at right is not the Central Government issue, but the Northeast Postal Service Issue as indicated by the 4 vertical characters along the left side. For this issue, the fact that the denominations are significantly different from the Central Government issue also makes it easier to catalog.
