I finally found a set of 1935 trains in mint, never hinged for my collection. The rest of the stamps in the lot are just a bonus :)

Catalogue numbers elude me at this time, but current Scott value for the 4 train stamps is $110 for MNH. Price: $43

Huzzah!

Very cool find. I've been looking for that set for a while now, too. Until I get lucky I'll occupy myself with admiring my used set (and with eyeballing the set you found ).

Very nice find! Cat numbers are Mi 580-583, Sc 459-462. Michel values MNH at €130 (about $180) for the set.

I see two pairs of number on each of the corners, Bayern1K. Is the second pair a plate number?

Brian,

If you're talking about the "12", "25", and "40", those are row counters (though I'm not sure what the technical term is).

If you look at German sheets of that period, some had numbers across the columns showing the cumulative value, and/or down the rows showing the value of a single column. For example, here's a Generalgovernment sheet of 50+50 Groschen stamps with both:

Since three of your trains are from the bottom-left corner, the numbers match the value of the stamp.

Of course! I've seen this before and should have remembered that. Great pic and great info. Thank you!
