Hi there! I have this 1970 First day Cover celebrating the bi centenary of Captain James Cook 1728-1779.
I have searched on the Internet for this cover in order to find a value but I cannot find it anywhere!
There are a number on the Internet that are very similar but I haven't been able to locate this exact one.
I know nothing of stamps or these first day covers and this one does not belong to me.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

20/4/1970
495/500

The early Aust Post covers are worth far more than privately produced

Captain Cook $45
Small cover CV $600
cook miniature sheet $22

That is book price 1990
Your cover appears damaged

Hi, thank you Rod222. Of your list of three different types, could you tell me which one I have please? I'm guessing it's the top one 'Captain Cook' $45? Thanks.

What you have is a Wesley cover, not an official AP one. Check out this site, about a third of the way down the page under the bright yellow box: OFFICIAL AUSTRALIA POST & WESLEY FIRST DAY COVERS, for the comparative prices:

Nice one 22crows,
I make it $22
but with damage (rust) showing $2-$10?

Good philatelic husbandry is essential to achieve book prices
This cover should have been maintained in an archival pocket.

Wesley covers are collectible, they made a handsome product in the main.

Here is an article by Glen Stephens,
if you google wesley covers glen stephens
it may still be available to read in entirety

Thank you very much. Yeah, unfortunately this was found in a home about to be demolished, a friend of mine picked it up and asked me to find some info on it. So the condition is not too bad considering but not too good either
Truly appreciate your help people, thanks

I have a similar question to the one from the original poster. I purchased a Captain Cook first day cover (similar to that shown above). The only addition to the stamp on the FDC is that it was signed by the original stamp designer.

The stamps came to me from a work colleague who used to work with the designer at the "General Post Office" (40+ years ago). He managed to get for me a small number of other signed FDC's by the same designer.

Does this increase the face value of the stamp /cover or, is it still just another small price collectable ?
