I recently got a batch of Australian stamps and so, with my trusty UV lamp, I did some searching. When I came upon SG 385 (Scott 397), I was put head-long into the Helecon ink/paper question brought up in a previous thread
https://goscf.com/t/25933I noted in my SG catalog, the following statement:
"No 385 was normally printed in Helecon ink. Early in 1967 experimental printings on different kinds of paper coated with Helecon or Derby Luminescents phosphor were put on sale. These cannot be distinguished by the naked eye."
So here, I present the stamps in question. These were photographed under UV-LW, so sorry in advance for the poor quality. However, I am hoping that the colors come out OK.
The left stamp is what I would consider the normal, pre-1967 version which is printed in Helecon ink. I have lots, and lots, and lots of examples that look just like this. The other three stamps were culled from this lot because of the obvious lack of bright red Helecon coloring. The second stamp is from a booklet pane, while the right two are "standard". The right two also have a speckled appearance which is especially visible on the far right example.
My question is what SG number/value do I have for the right (3) stamps? Thanks in advance.
