These definitives from the Philippine Islands (U.S. Admin) were issued and reissued from 1906 to 1931. The variations in colour, perforations, watermarks make them almost as confusing as the early U.S. Franklin/Washington series or the presidential series of the 1920s. Most of these pictured are from the 1917-25 issue. The 16c violet black Admiral Wm.T Sampson is from 1906 while the 16c olive bister Admiral Geo. Dewey is 1923. |

Well, can't let this thread fizzle out after such a meteoric rise. Here's my recently completed collection of Canadian KGV Admirals. Admittedly one or two are a little rough (will be replaced) and am working on the coils and war tax versions. Also have a bunch of colour variations and redrawn versions in a vario page. We all know the search never ends. Just cruised through all 14 pages. Some great definitives and almost definitives. Terrific discussion of an 'everyday' item. Keep 'em coming. |

Nice James! I want to finish my used set too - I do have the $1 but am missing 3 or 4 of the basic set. |

British Honduras 1917 Scott 77 3c orange & 1915 Scott 87 5c ultramarine "King George V" But notice something different about the 5c ultramarine? It has a violet moire overprint applied to prevent re-use. Trivial philatelic pursuit: How does burelage differ? |

A new word for today! From a nice little (illustrated) article on Wikipedia: Quote: Burelage (French: burelage)[1], also burelé, is a French term referring to an intricate network of fine lines, dots or other designs printed over or as the background of some postage or revenue stamps to prevent counterfeiting. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BurelageI hadn't seen any or perhaps paid attention to it before now, thank you! |

Jkjblue thanks for the stamp. Let's start a burelage thread! Here is my stamp without burelage. I have not figured out how to post these giant copies. |

BeeSee, let me know which admirals you are missing. I've got some extras, perhaps I can fill your holes (metaphorically speaking) |

Heres a representation of the Quetzal used by Guatemala from 1954 to 1986..many Guatemala collectors like to collect by perforations as the post office had 3 perforating machines..all different sizes..and they would use them as they pleased on different runs of stamps ! |
