Here is the latest definitive stamp from Thailand:

Issued on 7th November 2011, but I have only just been able to get it at the P.O. today. There have been distribution problems because of the floods in Bangkok. I am a definitives fan and have been looking forward to this one.

The lotus is printed with spot UV varnish. I like it a lot.

Thailand currently issues definitives with a portrait of His Majesty King Bhumiphol (in the 10th series now), and since 2003 has printed several "new" definitives to promote national identity. These new definitives have different designs, but all at the value of posting a letter inland, currently 3 baht (about 10c).

Thanks fifia

I bought a whole stack of these. When I'm making commemorative covers for exchange, it's nice to make up postage with stamps like this.

Those kings are very nice scifi7, I like your page layout.
Thanks for showing them. I have a few from Thailand but not many.
How come I keep on wanting to write Siam

Thailand has had some very attractive stamps in the past
especially some of the engraved ones.

scifi7, are Thailand stamps now printed locally ?
I know that years ago the engraved ones were printed by
De La Rue and Waterlow.
And the Japanese State Printer produced the photogravure
stamps.

Hi lithograving - thanks! As the first definitive series of King Rama IX, and my first full series, they are my favourites. The layout is not mine though, I borrowed it from my catalogue (Somchai Saeng-Ngern, 2008)

I agree, the engraved stamps from Thailand in the 50s and 60s, and the illustrated stamps of the 70s are beautiful. Stamp issues are generally now produced locally by TBSP, Thai British Security Printing company. There are some other local companies I think: Vachara and Chan Wanich. Also some issues printed by Cartor (France). Thailand Post likes to make innovations in printing stamps, to keep the collectors interested I suppose. We've had a hologram stamp, last year there were silk stamps, and this year a stamp commemorating HM the King's birthday with a real grain of rice attached (delayed from last year).

This series is the last definitive series to be labelled "Siam", although the Thai script says "Thai". (The country was briefly called Thailand in the 30s.) In 1949, Siam was changed to Thailand again.

These were the first definitives portraying King Carl XVI Gustaf

Starting in 1974 they were issued in booklets and coils.
They were engraved by Czeslaw Slania.

This is a great thread (for me!) So many well-researched items and interesting posts. You are all doing great. I like it because just this past summer I decided I wanted to somehow start recollecting the WORLD (that's how we all start when we're kids, right). I was not sure how to do it, but then decided a fun way would be to collect interesting, fun or classic definitive sets of many countries. That way, I get to collect the world and never have to worry about collecting every stamp.
