In 1990, after the collapse of the Soviet Union, Ukraine became an independent nation, and today, it is the second largest country in Europe.

I did not know that. I was checking the Internet and came up with these Ukraine occupation definitive stamps of which I have a set in my collection.

Objection !

That last lot was an Omnibus [Commemorative] series.

What was the above comment by LB1 referring to?

If the US Presidential Series Issue, then I would have to disagree that the lot is not a Commemorative but a Definitive Issue that was in place for some 16 years (from 1938 through 1954) at which time the Liberty Series Issue took over. The Scott Specialized Catalog of US Stamps clearly states this in its "Identifier of Definitive Issues".

I think Mr Bus was referring to the Europa series that fifia posted.
Mr. Bus?

Thanks for clarifying. Sometimes these posts are a bit out of chronological order because of another post that gets in-between.

I hadn't really taken the time to look at this thread until now, however, it is somewhat amazing that this thread has blossomed to more than 4 pages of posts in less than 24 hours ... Impressive!

The first definitive stamps of the new Republic of Germany (West Germany) were the Posthorn and Numeral issues of 1951-1952.

30 years Posthorn Definitives commeratives

I have a set of the real thing. The only stamps, I think I have, which are worth something. Moneywise.....

Still trying to understand these Definitive Stamps...

Sorry wt1 for the confusion...

Here's a favorite series of definitives from the German Democratic Republic. Some are legitimately postally used, and some are CTOs. By the way, these are not all the stamps in the series!

Here is the definition of "definitive" from askphil:

Quote:
Definitive: a term used to distinguish a normal, everyday issue of stamps; term developed after World War I to indicate the new stamps made to replace the many temporary issues of new countries.

Trainwreck, your East German definitives are a great example of these stamps being reworked and reissued over years. The top three rows being from the 1953 lithographed series, and the bottom three rows from the redrawn 1953-54 Typographed series. There was another batch in 1955, 1957-58 and 1959-60.
A lot of mileage on these designs.

Thanks, jamesw. Here's the remainder of the series.
The surcharged issues from 1954, and the reissues from 1955:

The reissues from 1957-1958 (pay no attention to Herr Pieck, he's not part of the series--how did he sneak in there anyway?):

The reissues from 1959-1960:
(After looking at the page closely, I think I have 477 and 477a reversed--perforation difference.)

Regards, Robert

...here is one, unfortunately this is not of that high value,

CV 2005 is 4,5 Euro used. This stamp comes in 2 shades, blueish or yellowish green.
