For a Stamp that personifies Canada how can anyone argue with the Beaver (My Wife is Canadian an I'm constantly reminded about the hard working Beaver) ? As far as the best looking stamp, 9 out of 10 will choose the Bluenose so I won't. I feel the 1941 1$ Destroyer is hard to beat.

Also I love the Blue Whale

There are no doubt some great individual Canadian stamps.....classics in themselves. I also think that there are some wonderful sets. Sorry to the "used" collector these are all mint never hinged.

2 thumbs up on the MNH collection! I'm still missing a few of the early George V in NH condition (In particular, the coils) , but otherwise am neck and neck with you. Well done!

great, great, great stamps - I feel myself getting poorer just looking at them. My question is for stallzer on the whales - is there a trick to getting such great cancels - does one have to have friends in T-Bay or take your mail directly to the post office etc etc - I love that stamp any old way but its particularly fabulous cancelled.

For those pictorial cancels such as shown, they are in only a few Post Offices (example in Halifax there are 10 post offices (guessing) and only one has the pictorial cancel for Halifax.) so the workers at those offices are very used to collectors wanting their cancels in a particular place or area and are usually happy to oblige.

The trick is always ask nicely and in a friendly way, and that goes for any othe post office also most likely.

No trick, as I am in Thunder Bay a few times a year, I just stopped by the Post Office and purchased the pair and had them cancelled per favor right there on the spot. The Woman at the counter was more than happy to do it and even offered me the choice of cancels, Thunder Bay traditional or the one with Fort William, which naturally I took.
