Burlington Northern Air Freight was the second airline to establish private mailing routes and fees. BN charge $4.25 for a 2 ounce mailing in addtion to the regular US postage rate stamp.

Here they are











I don't think the services were a success, as I have not seen a lot of these around.

Western Airline (Airletter) was the first one issued February 15, 1982, then ended in 1984 with 16 stamps.

Burlington Northern Airfreight (Airletter)was first issued August 30, 1982 ending in 1983 with 6 stamps.

American Express (Airletter) were issued 3 stamps all on January 10, 1982.

PRIDE ie Prompt Response Insurance Delivery Express (Airletter) all 7 issues released on February 28, 1983.

When did Scott Publishing issue pages for the National Album for these stamps? Were they in a supplement? If so which one?

I am not sure they were ever in any Scotts NAtional pages suppliment. Might be wrong however. MAybe someone else may know.I also do not beleive they were ever listed in Scotts catalogs, as they were not post office issue, only provate company issued.

You could find these in United States Albums of the '80"s, Minkus for sure, Scott likely but once they stop issuing additional stamps interest wained!

If you want a real CHALLENGE, find one of these that was actually used commercially. I have only seen a couple.

Don't think I have every seen any commercial used envelopes. I haven't seen a lot of these even in the condition I posted it in. Those were purchased a lot of years ago. I will keep my eyes open however.

Thanks for sharing these. They are another example of private labels carrying mail by air express service that goes back to the 1920s and earlier. Some of the early examples of this are the Railway Express Agency's Air Express service from the early 1930s, and the Canadian air service by various small airlines of the 1920s. Here are a couple of exmaples of these early examples of these kind of special air mail labels:
