I recently bought a few early Afghanistan stamps...the so called "lion heads" and sometime wrongly described as tiger heads. As I'm trying to identify them any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

I can't claim to know anything about these, but I just wanted to say what an incredible collection you've acquired. As you've suggested, Scott's wrongly labels these as 'tiger's head', but they put them in the Kingdom of Kabul, 1870s into the 1880s.
Pretty cool looking, that's for sure.

Thanks James, a beautiful collection indeed. Trouble is that SG SOTW has not much info on these so I might need to get the Asian specialised catalogue. I have Scott and Michel on CDs but I can't find them right now
