It is OK to make mistakes,
but not OK to perpetuate incorrect information.
I am saying that web link is in error

There is no burelage on that German Ploughman.

Inverted backgorounds exist ($290 in 2004 for block of 4)

My example (show me the burelage?)

Burelage (French: burelage)[1], also burelé, is a French term referring to an intricate network of fine lines, dots or other designs printed over or as the background of some postage or revenue stamps to prevent counterfeiting.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Burelage (pronounced BUR-[ah]-lej) — A design of fine, intricate lines printed on the face of security paper, either to discourage counterfeiting or to prevent the cleaning and reuse of a stamp. The burelage on some stamps is part of the stamp design. See also "moire" and "security paper."

Whoa there !
not having a go at you at all,
just the information.

You posted the information from somewhere else,
and I was/am debating those.

In my opinion that is not burelage.

That doesn't mean I am having a shot at you
we only learn by making mistakes.
If I don't call the information into question
then the error perpetuates.
Nothing to do with you personally.

Don't remove the posts, debates are part of the knowledge base.
Please don't take it personally.

Am I missing this error in Michel? Catalogue blindness? I'm not seeing it. (I'm not seeing it on the stamp, either...what is the spotting feature for this error?)

I'm with you, I can't spot it
I am assuming it is similar to the inverted backgound on the early Finland

eg: the second colour (green) is printed to match certain
spaces around the horse. When the sheet was printed inverted
the colours did not match the spaces.
I cannot spot it, but I havn't spent a great deal of time on it.

I have not found a reference to "burelage" in my SG catalogues, however my Michel Gulf States German-English supplement mentions this term
i.e. "Unterdruck = Underprint (burelage)".

This would seem to suggest that the stamp design has been applied to paper already bearing the "burelage" or underprint.

I haven't found any examples of burelage in my collection, although Michel does refer, for example, to a MS being available both with burelage and without (e.g. Mi Blk 18).
(I only have blk 18 without burelage).

Given the definitions supplied earlier in this thread, however, the Lebanon issues of early 1978 could be regarded as examples of burelage, i.e. patterns applied to remaining stocks of stamps to distinguish them from supplies of stamps stolen during the civil war.

In fact my SG Middle East refers to these as "security overprints", and Timbroliban (French language specialist catalogue of 1983) as "surchargé" or overprint.
