Here is another "railway bridge with train" stamp. This 1961, 70c airmail stamp (Sc #C259) of Mexico is from a set of 3 publicizing the Chihuahua Pacific Railway. The inscription on the stamp says "48 bridges", which is the number of bridges on the line, from Texas to the Pacific Ocean. Another stamp in the set is titled "72 tunnels".

A train can be seen on the high railway bridge in the Tarahumara (Copper Canyon) region of Chihuahua State.

On January 17, 1987 France issued this stamp commemorating the 50th anniversary of the death of Fulgence Bienvenue (1852-1936). Bienvenue was a French civil engineer who did important work on the Paris Metro system. He has been called "the father of the Paris Metro."

Photograph shows Bienvenue at the entrance to the Metro's Monceau station (Wikipedia).

A diesel locomotive can be seen pulling a long line of passenger cars on this circa 2005-10 international postcard rate stamp of private courier Universal Mail of New Zealand. The route appears to be Dunedin Railway's Taieri Gorge scenic tour.

Universal Mail of NZ was fast to move into the "hotel mail" niche of private couriers when New Zealand allowed mail carrying competition in 1998. The enterprise appears to have been acquired by DX Mail (NZ) in 2010.

Very handsome photo of Bienvenue. I'm particularly taken with his mode of dress. Do we know how he lost his left arm?

Thanks, funcitypapa.

According to Wikipedia, Mr. Bienvenue lost his arm in a construction accident on his very first assignment.

This German 1994 cinderella souvenir sheet was produced in connection with the THUEBRIA '94 Stamp Show in Oberhof, Thuringia, Germany. The sheet contains perforated facsimiles of a proposed "historic locomotives" set of 5 stamps of the former DDR.

The inscription on the sheet tells the story. The stamps were originally planned to be released in July, 1990, but the process was disrupted by the changes of that year.

The inscription reads, "After the currency union, the issue was rescheduled and, as announced at the time, they should appear as the overprinted stamps. The issue date was scheduled for October 23, 1990 - at that point the reunification had already taken place, so that neither the un-overprinted series nor the overprinted edition had been published."

The DDR's last two stamps were issued on October 2, 1990.
