kug - Thanks!

Here is an image of a whimsical stamp depicting a "primitive human," designed by Italian cartoonist Ugo Bertotti (1954- ), printed by photogravure, and issued by Itlay on September 9, 1996 to publicize the 13th Congress of the International Union for Prehistoric and Protohistoric Sciences (IUPPS), held in Forlì, Scott No. 2104.

Today I received Nepal 2013 set.

There are some blue lines on front and back of each samp. I was thinking there are some pencil tracks, but seller claim it is security protection.

"Please note that the marks are not pencil marks but visible fiber security marks that were placed on the stamps as a security measure. These fiber marks appear on most all stamps, both on the front and back. You can view this information on the Technical details on the back of the FDC ( Point No.5)."

Technical details on a back side of FDC have the follow statemen ( Point No.5)t: "Paper: security stamps paper UV dull with visible & invisible fibres & phosphorescent dots."

What is your opinion ?

Just received these very rare stamps of Congo 1998, overprint multiple 'AUTORISÉ' on stamps of 1993. (MiNr. 1524 & A1530)
According to stampedout.nl : "The late nineteen were chaotic times in the Congo. Rebels / warlords took control over parts of the country, and seized significant quantities of valid stamps. To prevent these from being sold or used, the central government had their stock of stamps overprinted, and declared stamps without overprint invalid." In total almost 50 stamps from various stamp sets are overprinted. two of them are from prehistoric animals set from 1993. Michel add - short time after, also in 1998, another overprinted stamps with "LEGAL" text, are issued all stamps with previous overprint declared invalid too. However it were still on sale for collectors.

Curious about its catalogue values. In my Michel copy (2007) price is not provided.

kug, regarding your Nepal stamps with the blue "lines" on the reverse: they look to me like silk threads. Stamps, including some early U.S. revenue stamps, have been printed on silk paper for security purposes. The silk paper looks very much like what you have shown above.

Happy Birthday to French naturalist and zoologist Georges Cuvier (1769-1832), whose work is considered the foundation of vertebrate paleontology. Cuvier is also well known for establishing extinction as a scientific fact. Here is an image of a semi-postal (charity) stamp featuring a portrait of Baron Cuvier, designed by French artist Clément Serveau (1886-1972), engraved by Jean Pheulpin, and issued by France on May 19, 1969, Scott No. B430, Y&T No. 1595, plus an image of a painted portrait of the scientist.

Switzerland issued another special this year, an embossed ammonite, 105 X 70 mm. "On the basis of its characteristic ribs, the ammonite depicted on the stamp is probably a Colombiceras, a species of ammonite that lived during the Cretaceous period around 120 million years ago." (W. Etter, Geoscience Curator Basel Natural History Museum). Ammonites can be found in the Jura mountains.
