In 1986 post authority of Yugoslavia issued two stamps in CEPT (Europe) program, with a topic endangered animals. A skeleton of big mammal is shown on FDC - looks like (Megatherium), who was a genus of elephant-sized ground sloths endemic to Central and South America that lived from the late Pliocene through the end of the Pleistocene. Most cite the appearance of an expanding population of human hunters as the cause of its extinction. Two questions to community: 1) Anybody has an official release, brochure or kind of presentation pack with description of the set, especially the FDC ? 2) Why Megaterium ? As far I know, this animals lived in South and North America - fossils of the animal is not found in Europe to date. |

A friend of mine, being on a business trip in UK, sent me 10 post cards shows most recent "dinosaurs" of Great Briatin. These cards, called PHQ, produced by Roayl Mail as part of standard product, have the same, but bigger, design as stamps. Each card I received has the similar stamp on the backside plus some other stamps to complete correct postage of p88. Two often cards with some flying reptilies are below. |

A friend of mine sent me some scans of his FDC collection. Here are 13 covers from Japan, issued in 1977 in order to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the National Science Museum. Just wonder which one is official one ? "A POSTAGE STAMP TO CQMMEMORATE 100 YEARS OF THE NATIONAL SCIENCE MUSEUM A ¥50 postage stamp to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the National Science Museum has been issued. The first museum in Japan was established at Yushima in Ochanomizu, Tokyo, in 1872. It then was called the Museum of the Ministry of Education and was designed to exhibit zoological and botanical specimen as well as various kinds of minerals and fossils. The name of the museum was later changed to the Tokyo Museum and in 1877 it made a fresh start as the Educational Museum. This is the origin of the present science museum. In June, 1949, under the law for the establishment of the Education Ministry, the museum was placed under the jurisdiction of the Education Minister. Its name was changed to the present National Science Museum. This year marks the 100th year since the museum made a start as the Educational Museum. The only museum of this kind in Japan. the National Science Museum makes research and studies of the history of nature and natural science. exhibits data related to the studies for public view and contributes to the diffusion of knowledge concerning the history of nature and natural science among the people." from official press release. |

Here is an image of a stamp featuring portraits of Henri Édouard Prosper (Abbé) Breuil (1877-1961), a French Catholic priest, archaeologist, anthropologist, ethnologist and geologist, and Albert I (1848-1922), Prince of Monaco, plus depictions of the façade of the Institute for Human Paleontology, Paris, and of a cave-dwelling family, designed and engraved by Claude Andréotto, and issued by Monaco on June 1, 2010 to commemorate the Institute's centenary, Scott No. 2597. - nethryk |

Hi kug, about trilobit on Slovenian stamp: it is named "bedici" after an amateur researcher of fosiles Bediè Jo¾e from my birth town. I knew him personally. Bedic collection of fossils has about 20,000 specimens, representatives of various animal groups. Prepared is about 4,000. The major part of the collection is owned by Gornjesavski Museum, Jesenice. see link: http://temp9.element.si/ |

Few days ago, I received two covers from a fellow collector from Slovenia. He visited Prirodoslovni muzej Slovenije (Natural science museum of Slovenia) in Ljubljana, with his family and bought it for me. I was expecting to receive FDC covers, but only uncanceled was available at museum's store. I add another, yellow, personalized stamp of the mammoth issued by philatelic society in Kamnik in end of March 2013 on it. The first cover sent to me fellow back, he suppose to add some more stamps there, then send it to me from Ljubljana back. The second one, with an image shows fossil-found place at Nevlje near Kamnik town. Just wonder if anybody who can send me this cover from Kamnik/Nevlje is here ? |
