A Queen Victoria Straits Settlement stamp with an HSB perfin, for Hong Kong & Shanghai Bank:

The cancel appears to be Singapore. The bank was founded in 1865 and still exists, as one of the largest in the world, now known as HSBC.

Nice perfin. Yours is one pattern I do not have for Straits Settlement.
I do have 4 other patterns...
B&Co = Boustead & Co., Singapore
CBI = Chartered Bank of India, Penang
M = Compagnie des Services Messagiers Maritime,Singapore
McA/CO = McAlister & Co, Singapore

Hopefully someday I will find them all (48 pattersn), but haven't so far. Good luck on finding more patterns. Share them when you do!

Am I understanding that there are only 48 known perfins on Straits Settlements stamps? That doesn't seem like too many to chase...

That is the total from one of the lists that shows all of the patterns. No it doesn't seem like a lot, but all of them were not used in great quantities, and some are rather expensive (as well as those on stamps that are high end). I admit I have not been searching these out specifically, but I have been collecting perfins for 35 plus years and these are what I have found. If money is no object, I am sure one can find these things in a reasonable time period.

HSB is by far the most common perfin,
and also Violet oval fiscal cancels.

I am surprised Nestle is not represented.

A few from my early scans when I began collecting

LPL = Lee Plantations Ltd (common on Jubilee issues)
C&B Co
SMC or CMS
St C

Rod222:
Your C&BC0 is a wrapped B&Co perfin (Boustead & Co)., Singapore
Your LP/L perfin is Lewis C. Peat Ltd, Singapore (earlier Lee Plantations)
Your SMC is Singapore Municipal Commissioners, Singapore
Your StC is a broken pattern S.T.C (Straits Trading Company, Singapore)

and the source of your list is from http://www.philatel2.com/jubilee/id360_t.htm

Thanks for sharing the scans.

Oh, I don't need them all...I'm not a completist, by any stretch of the imagination. It is just nice to have some round idea of how many might be known to exist. Might be a winter project to see how many I have now.

I didn't always include the information on the perfin (or dates of cancels, for that matter), in my file names, so some digging would be in order.

Thanks to all for the info.

I find Perfin Collecting to be a fun passtime. There are indeed a bunch of them out there. Some countries have 1, some countries have 28000.

If you guys are into collecting these I will suggest the Perfins Club as a great source of information and perfins. Think about it. It is worth the investment
to have the data (or at least have a source of data) available when you collect.

OK, plug over.

If I run across any more I will post them...

Found another link today that lists 95 perfin patterns. This seems to be the latest accurate listing I have found dated 23 September 2010.
link: http://www.michelhoude.com/BMSM/PER...@PERFINS.htm

Enjoy. If I find any newer lists will give link.
