Canada issued this SS for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee. I'm appreciative that we still produce at least one engraved stamp issue every few years but I'm not impressed by the likeness(?) of the mature Queen. I don't why but she reminds me of Miss Havisham. |

Here a a couple from Belgium. I found these in an album I picked up on ebay. They were stuck to the pages but the freezing method made them fairly easy to remove. The first is from 1938 and is a (dare I say the word?) semi-postal B221(according to Scott anyway). The surtax was to aid the completion of the National Basilica at Koekelburg. The second semi-postal (ooh there's that word again) B208 showing the King Albert Memorial. Both were hinged and the backs are not pristine. |

Here is an image of a souvenir sheet designed and engraved by Pierre Forget after an illustration entitled "The mutineers turning Lt Bligh and part of the officers and crew adrift from HMAV Bounty, 29 April 1789," by British artist and engraver Robert Dodd (1748-1816), and published by B B Evans in 1790. This sheet was issued for use in French Polynesia on July 7, 1989 to commemorate (somewhat bizarrely, in my opinion) the bicentenaries of both the mutiny and the French Revolution, and to publicize the PHILEXFRANCE '89 philatelic exhibition in Paris, Scott No. 516, plus an image of Dodd's original artwork. Note: This souvenir sheet also includes a stamp similar to Albert Decaris's "Storming of the Bastille" stamp issued by France, Scott No. 1307, an image of which I previously posted here: https://goscf.com/t/21650&whichpage=2- nethryk |
