The Schlegeis Dam, located in the Zillertal Valley, 30 km southeast of Innsbruck, is the main structure of the Zemm Power Plant in Austria. The 131 m high concrete arch dam was completed in 1970 and full storage level was reached 1973.

The Grande Dixence Dam is a concrete gravity dam on the Dixence at the head of the Val d'Hérens in the canton of Valais in Switzerland. At 285 m high, it is the tallest gravity dam in the world and is part of the Cleuson-Dixence Complex. The hydroelectric power station has the installed capacity of 2,069 MW.

The Grimsel Dam is a concrete arch dam on River Aare near the Grimsel Pass in the Canton of Berne. The dam was completed in 1932. Its hydroelectric power plant has an installed capacity of 67 MW.

Hydroelectricity Power Plants and Dams
March 10, 1978
Strimtori Dam on the Firiza River was completed in 1974. It is a concrete buttress dam 51.5 m in height and 260 m in length. The power station has an installed capacity of 4.2 MW.
Negovanu Dam is an double curvature concrete arch dam, 62 m in height and 157 m in length. The power station has an installed capacity of 15.4 MW.
Piatra Neamt Dam is on the Bistrita River in the city of Piatra Neamt. It is a 70 m high, 120 m long concrete gravity dam. The power station has an installed capacity of 80 MW.
Bicaz Dam is a einforced concrete dam on the Bistrita River near the town of Bicaz. It is 127 m high and 435 m long. The power station has an installed capacity of 210 MW.
Vidraru Dam is a concrete arch dam on the Arges River. The dam is 166 m high and 305 m long. Its power plant has an installed capacity of 220 MW.
Iron Gate Dam is on the Danube River bordering Romania and Serbia, 10 km southeast of the city of Orsova. The concrete gravity dam is 60.6 m in height and 441 m in length. The Iron Gate I and Iron Gate II power plants have a total installed capacity of 2,100 MW.

Completion of the Gabcikovo

Gabcikovo Dam is on the Danube River straddling Hungary and Slovakia, 45 km southeast of the city of Bratislava. The project aimed at preventing catastrophic floods, improving river traffic and producing clean electricity. The hydroelectric power station has a designed capacity of 300 MW.

The Bhumibol Dam is a concrete arch dam on the Ping River, a tributary of the Chao Phraya River, in Amphoe Sam Ngao district of Tak Province, Thailand. It was built for the purposes of water storage, hydroelectric power production, flood control, fisheries and saltwater intrusion management. Here is an image of a stamp depicting the Bhumibol Dam, and an irrigation gate, printed by lithography on granite paper, and issued by Thailand on August 1, 1998 to commemorate the 60th anniversary of Irrigation Engineering in Thailand, Scott No. 1821, plus a photo of the Bhumibol Dam.

The Salto Grande Dam is a 65 m high, 3,000 m long concrete dam on the Uruguay River, located between Concordia, Argentina, and Salto, Uruguay; thus is shared between the two countries. The power station has fourteen Kaplan turbines, totaling the installed capacity to 1,890 MW.

General Francisco Morazan Hydroelectric Project

The El Cajón Dam, officially known as General Francisco Morazan Hydroelectric Project, is a double arch dam on the Comayagua River in western Honduras. At 226 m high it is the highest arch dam in the western hemisphere (5 m higher than the Hoover Dam). The power plant, commissioned in 1986, is equipped with four 75 MW Francis type turbines.

The King Fahd Dam is a concrete gravity dam on Wadi Bisha about 35 km south of Bisha in southwestern Saudi Arabia. The dam has many functions including flood control, municipal water supply, irrigation and groundwater recharge.

The Randenigala Dam is a large hydroelectric embankment dam at Rantembe in central Sri Lanka. The dam and power station was ceremonially opened in 1986. The power station has an installed capacity of 126 MW.
