We decided some time ago to only sell on ebay.

Their code of conduct is good to everyone.

They also do all the paper work.

Tried to sell on another on line auction but ended my membership.

Their no worries! You can sell a stamp that is made to look like something that it is not totally insulted me!

I tried two other stamp auction online sites and gave them up also. ebay is the better place to sell. What happens on those other sites when someone does not pay after three weeks and does not respond to emails? No protection for the seller. Other auction sites have cheaper fees but ebay is better & safer for all, and when things go wrong on the other sites with sales things are a real mess. Don't get me started on Delcampe. High joining fees and other hidden fees involved with that site and no one even viewed any of my listings there. Anyway ebay is the place to sell as you say KGV why bother with other sites for selling?

interesting topic on stamp investing. Stanley Gibbons came to Singapore to promote stamp investment and tried to entice investors to park their savings in rarities and classics as opposed to any type of stamps. I have been observing the market and think investing in rare China stamps is an avenue to see to see your money growing with the stamp. When I was a kid, I was offered a sheet of 100 pieces of the monkey horoscope stamp (printed in 1980) for a mere $900. As I was still scholing then, buying the sheet was out of the question. In today's market that same sheet is valued at more than $100k. All my China stamps have appreciated in value over the years and with USD continuing to weaken against the Yuan and other Asian currencies, it is good to look at China classic stamps to enhance your wealth for the future. Just my 2 cents.

Hi Jameschi even if the stamp sheet has a catalog value of 100K it would not sell for that price. Most people wants valuable stamps as cheap as possible these days, and you would be lucky to find a collector who would pay full price. It is the same with Canadian and US stamps. Catalogs give them high prices but in auctions they sell for a fraction of the cat value. With the exception of the inverted Jenny. Coincidentally I have a collection of China in a davo album 1990 to 2000 complete, nice stamps, I don't think they are worth that much though.

If I had that sheet of monkey stamps, I would be happy to sell it at 40% discount of catalogue price lol

Don't forget that the China currency is now almost in worse shape than the US Dollar. Yes China is hot, but it's also a minefield for reprints. Also since it's no longer a secret, try and find a set of the 1909 Temple of Heaven China stamps for Catalog value, or for that matter try finding a set for 2X Catalog value. Everyone is now well aware of the hot market and it's reflected in the prices so I'm not too sure on how good of an investment it is anymore.

I gather sheets of the Chinese Monkey stamps have been selling for around $HK1.3 million (which I make to be around $US160,000) each at auction. I don't know how that compares with the catalogue prices, but I doubt it's at much of a discount!

Of course, investing in straight Chinese stamps today wouldn't be very well-advised. Too many people are onto that game. Selected postal history, on the other hand, should still have a way to go.

If one puts their mind to it, one can sell anything.
I have made $1,600 selling stamps between Jan 16th-March 16th and ONLY on Groups like this one.

Londonbus1 is another one who seems to be doing well with selling on ebay.

Just to be clear, Duncan misunderstood my post ! I have NOT sold on ebay but was trying to tender an alternative way to sell with everything going for it, including lower fees, more friendly and more safe. My sales have been on groups like SCF but not only SCF. It's a great way to sell and is great for the soul.

Very good to hear from you Duncan. Yes it has been a while. Nice to hear that ebay has worked for you and have noticed you stayed with covers. I start my 4th year with ebay with a lot of great stock and high hopes and a lot of help from my family now and to come.

There have been a few changes and I am definitely not going to labour on them but one change you need to know about is we can no longer post a link to our selling place unless we are an SCF supporter.

Always Happy Stamping.
John

I guess the obvious question is why not support this site ? All of us are going to need to do this or were going to start seeing more advertising or someone is going to make a offer to buy this site . Then the new owners will start with all kinds of restrictions to anyone mentioning any sale offers other than theirs .Everyone can in some amount support and keep this site as it is.

China is a speculative market (for stamps), and specualtive markets are dangerous.

This is your comment from the thread "The Way It Is"

Good to see many positive responds to this chat board but can I ask each one of you to become a financial supporter and send in a small amount to keep this place going ,it was easy for me by using a credit card .

I will give you an answer. To show you apart of life that you may not understand.

At the end of this month we will be $3,000+ short for the basic bills payments just for this month alone. We have not made anything of a profit out of ebay for 2 months now. It has cost us in Dec & Jan is flat. We eat one meal a day and are very thankful of that meal we have, big time. We share what little we have with others that are doing it harder than we are and why they are doing it harder than we are is because there is children involved. We will give our last 1c to fill a hungry child's belly.
In a couple of month the mess will sort its self out as ebay income will start to meet our needs. We are positioned very well for this to happen and I spend just about every waking hour trying to put the ebay thing together 24/7/365. It is a very serious event for me.

At the right time I will become a supporter again but some people are doing it so tough on this forum they will never be able to support no matter how hard they try, the $'s are just not there.

So I ask you floortrader in all sincerity to put in some extra $'s into SCF for the people that simply just can not. You are so passionate about it you should be able to fix some of the short fall for some of us please.

Mean time I will try to do some stuff to help SCF by posting, hopefully!

God help us all! John
