Where do you store your stamps and do you take an extra steps to protect them?

Hi mk farm

I keep mine sorted in Envelopes by country (archival of course) inside photo boxes. For the countries that I hve lots of stamps like Germany, Hungary Canada, US etc I bought some neet little storage boxes that came with little packets of silica gel to prevent moisture.

I bought a whole bunch of glassines for when I sort within the country.

This works well for me because I purchased large lots on ebay and it gave me a place to store them until I could weed out the spares and place them in albums.

Dianne

same for me - I have mine in glassine envelopes and the envelopes in a small plastic container (kinda like tupperware). I have a couple of silica gels that I got somewhere.

eventually i'm going to put them in an album when I get enough together.

MKfarm I store my stamps in glassine boxes, red 102 card boxes, computer paper boxes, plastic sweater boxes, cigar boxes, metal file drawers and even stock books..since I use different size glassines like #2s and #4s and 102 cards ..there is not much rhyme or reason..like I could have Germany stamps in 8 different locations !!

I guess I could of stated how I store mine. I have come along way since I first started collecting stamps. I use to put all of my extras in regular small envelopes. I had a few stored in glassine envelopes in addition. Then everything including my albums were keep in a cardboard box in the bedroom.

Today I have replace all the old letter envelopes with new glassine ones. I had to replace the older glassine one too because they became brown and brittle.

I have been pretty lucky because in almost 40 years I have never lost a stamp to poor storage. I started my collecting at 9 years of age.

Today the whole collection is kept in large plastic containers. While they are not air tight they are less prone to damage from moving then around, insects and dust. All of my small glassine's are kept inside a variety of box's.

I'm lucky because it has been an easy job to keep the humidity within an acceptable range. This is become more important since I am growing my MNH part of the collection.

What I don't put in my albums I store in: http://www.subwaystamp.com/prodinfo...r=ZGK104CK/O

Each envelope can hold up to 100 or so typically sized stamps with ease.

I guess you have to account for the little space the stamps would take up. I guess another 40 minute drive is in order some time next month. I like those.

I typically fit about 600 - 750 cards in each box. They tend to get fat like a dog tick after a good meal when you stuff 50 to 100 commeratives in them. I actually buy extra boxes every once in awhile just so I can expand.

Well until Christmas time comes around and I get my first WW Album it's glassines and Rubbermaid. I have a couple of nice Rubbermaid boxes that I picked up at Wal-Mart and I just lay the glassines flat in them so they stay flat. So far it seems to work for me until something better comes along.

That does appear to be a little safer way then using the envelops. I like the idea of the hard card to help prevent damage.

BTW I saw them making those exact cards when I made my visit last week.

I had to order two more boxes today. Some day someone will take some of these German duplicates off my hands.
