This 1974 French stamp (Sc #1407) depicts the European bison. From Wikipedia, "The European bison (Bison bonasus) also known as the wisent, zubr, or the European wood bison, is a European species of bison. It is one of the two extant species of bison, alongside the American bison...The European bison is the national animal of Poland and Belarus." The photo shows a moulting male European bison.   |

On October 8, 1998 Ireland issued a set of four "Endangered Animals" stamps. One of the stamps (Hib. #C887) depicts the scimitar-horned oryx. From Wikipedia, "The scimitar-horned oryx (Oryx dammah), also known as the Sahara oryx, is a species of oryx that was once widespread across North Africa. The species went extinct in the wild in 2000, but a group was released in an acclimation enclosure in 2016, then reintroduced into the wild (in Chad)."  |

Kyrgyzstan Mountain Sheep May 18, 2013 The stamps depict Argali ( Ovis ammon), a wild sheep from the highlands of Central Asia (Himalaya, Tibet, Altay). Males have two large corkscrew shaped horns, while females have much smaller horns.  |

India issued a set of four Wildlife Protection stamps on October 1, 1976. The low value, 25 paise stamp (Sc #736) depicts a swamp deer, or barasingha. From Wikipedia, "The barasingha (Rucervus duvaucclii) is a deer species distributed in the Indian subcontinent." It is a threatened species.   |
