I think it's time to revive this thread after 3 years laying dormant. A lot of water, and many covers under the bridge since my last post. Quite a few older than my last shown, but will start her up again with this 1834 cover received in Queenston UC. The recipient is a prominent citizen who was a loyalist from New Jersey (same as my ancestors!). The writer must be an old friend who writes to tell of life back home in 'Yankee Land'. His house still stands near the whirlpool rapids below the falls. |

I am glad that this thread was re-activated. Some really fantastic covers have appeared in here since I last saw this thread.

JamesW Thank you for reviving this thread. Overall--its a great topic. Taking nothing away from the many beautiful stampless covers--I'm going to reset it back to earliest stamped covers...and after searching my excel spreadsheet, here is my oldest canceled stamp cover...not the oldest, but I'm staking the claim to the oldest Newfoundland stamped cover ... so there Wert! Its #3, on a simple little envelope with a couple of unusual (not rare but still not typical cancels : a red one from St Johns with "paid" in the cancel ring....and the destination is Fogo, clear as can be--a coveted destination town, though it was a pretty big town back then...1,037 souls... 1861 |

Hi Wert, I just got two boxes of mostly Canadian stamps that had been collected by Harry Voss. It might take me a couple of years to see what he has accumulated there are all kinds of varieties sorted roughly by issue. Checking these out will be a real ordeal but a fun one. I did note there maybe some duplication but it looks like a lot of them are one of a kind. Guess you won't hear from me for a while and I was going to share a few stampless covers. Oh well maybe next time.... |

Here is my one and only stampless cover. The Greenock, UC cancel is the earliest recorded, so it was a nice bonus to discover when I researched it. |

watermark, just curious if you would tell us where you purchased the box of Harry Voss material. I at least am curious. |

I bought it from a stamp dealer and it wasn't inexpensive. Shot my stamp budget for the next few years. Looks like there maybe some major re-entries mixed in with all the others. I found a 4d major re-entry Pane A, position 47. I believe there is a major re-entry on a 15-cent Large Queen just getting started. |
