Hiya people
I have been scanning and putting up images of my collection in a flicker image storage and display site.
It has had some interesting side effects that I thought I would share with other collectors.
Just in the past week I have been contacted by two old stamp swapping contacts who found me by googling "motorcycle stamps" and my collection on the flicker page popped up in the first google page.
So it's nice to be back in contact with old friends.
Also it has helped get other material that I would never have even seen otherwise.
Also I might have shown very small parts of my collection to maybe ONE person a year in person... this way people all over the world can enjoy some of the highlights what I have collected. It's nice to share and I can't deny that it sure is nice get some compliments every now and then! :)
I recommend this to other collectors!
Some tips for others who might want to do something the same...
1. The Internet is all word association... so with the image name and the description, put in the words that collectors might look for.
2. I only use "flicker" because it was the first one I found, so I am not recommending it over any other service, BUT it seems easy to use and what I do like is that people can NOT copy the images. Which is good to stop fraudulent people coping the images and trying to "sell" them on auction sites etc.
3. Put your contact details in the image description so people do not have the register at the site to contact you. (at the risk of some spam, but I have had no more than normal.)
Anywho, I just wanted to share that experience with others.
Regards
Gavin
