Everybody,

I would truly appreciate help with 1958 stamps (listed on SCOTT under Egypt: Occupation stamps for use in Palestine" and on Stanley Gibbons under "Gaza"). The set was issued few times and the stamps I refer to are the ones inscribed "Egypt" (not Egypt UAR and not UAR).

So my question: Does Scott/Stanley Gibbons list watermark changes or varieties for these?

Any Help would be much appreciated.

Here are the relevant Pictures:

Hi Seahorse

I believe that these are back of Egypt in the "N"numbers (occupation) . Yours are between #N75-59

Cheers Bujutsu,

I am interested to know if they have watermark changes or varieties listed on Scott and on Stanley Gibbons.

Yes, Scott does list some watermark varieties. Assuming you have the Scott catalog, these are the numbers to look at:

N58-N61
N62,N66-N67
N75,N77-N78

You can ignore the last set, because your set is not those colors. For your 1m stamp, there is no other listed watermark/perforation varieties for that color.

KHJ,

I do not have the relevant Scott and Gibbons catalogues, so I cannot use the numbers. Would appreciate if you could elaborate....

wmk315 is multiple eagle
wmk318 is multiple eagle with "Misr"

1957 (wmk315, p13.5)
N58, 10m violet

1958 (wmk318, p13.5)
N59, 1m light blue green
N60, 5m brown
N61, 10m violet

[EDIT: the set below is "UAR" inscribed]
1958 (wmk318, p13.5x14)
N62, 1m crimson
N66, 5m brown
N67, 10m violet

I've ignored N75-N78 because the stamp color is different from what you have shown.

Your 1m stamp is N59. The other 2, you will need to check watermark/perf.
[EDIT: your 5m stamp is N60, the 10m stamp you will need to check the watermark]

KHJ,

Many many thanks. Are you sure N62, 66, 67 Don't refer to stamps with UAR on them? If so than the Only change of watermarks for the set with "EGYPT" on it would be the 10 milliemes stamps.

Last but not least - who is who (315, 318) as far as watermarks:

Sorry, you are correct. I thought Scott used a different design number (A#) for the stamps with UAR inscription, but I was mistaken.

Thank you for the correction. I will go back and correct the original post.

The SG numbers in Part 19 are as follows:

Multiple eagle watermark (W 158). This is the lower watermark in Kim's illustrations above:

SG 87a 10m bright violet (Rameses II)

Multiple eagle with "misr", i.e simpler Arabic inscription (W 161). This is the upper watermark in Kim's illustrations:

SG 88 1m deep turquoise-green (Country woman and cotton plant)
SG 89 5m sepia (Factory skyline)
SG 90 10m bright violet (Rameses II)

There are no other varieties listed.

As much as I enjoy getting undeserved credit, the illustrations were actually provided by Seahorse...

Thank you Nigelc,

The next album I am going to publish will be Egypt (to 1958) and the Palestine pages will be offered as a free pdf file which will be used as a promotion. The watermark question I had here was the last one. The files are now ready for an English editor and probably will be offered some when next week.

By the way... Did I get the watermarks right?

Nice album page, however...

...to me it is not clear what set has what watermark in your current layout. Also, the ordering is not quite chronological, but perhaps that was not your goal.

I took the liberty of cutting/pasting your page. The single 10m stamp with "double" line watermark (315) came out in 1957 (according to Scott). The three 1m-10m stamps with "single" line watermark (318) came out in 1958. Hope this helps...
