I have a 3c small queen on cover with a backstamp Crichton, U.C. Oct 2, 1873.

I cannot locate such a place on Google maps or other websites.

The cover is addressed to Picton, Ontario (near belleville Belleville)

A quick search only reveals a Crichton in Southwest Saskatchewan that existed from the early 1900's.

Any other back stamps or enclosures?

Have you considered whether or not the postmark could be "Brighton, UC"?

Thanks WT1, I think you have it! Brighton is near enough to Bellville Belleville. I can easily see the 4th letter being a "G". The first COULD be a "B" but it looks so much like a "C".
