The place I am at with my stamps..i probably need a new set of Scott catalogs every two years...not for the stamps in my collection...but for my surplus that I sell at 1/3 catalog or swap !Right now my catalogs are a mix of 2003 and 2006 and if you look at a 2008 or 2009 catalog you will see where I could be shorting myself..Delaware Valley stamps has an ad in Linns where they will ship postpaid a single catalog for $55 or the set of 6 for $320...thats well below retail and postage included..but the 79 dollar retail is not realistic anyway...i should get two years out of the catalogs so thats $160 a year...

if you look at a 2008 or 2009 catalog you will see where I could be shorting myself

Phil..do you sell enough stamps to warrant the $320.00..? IMHO, You may be better off shorting yourself, a few cents.

Phil:

Do you sell the older ones off, as you replace them, to recover some of your costs?

David, the 2003's have no value at our stamp club...people do not even take them for free..a 2006 may bring 3 dollars !

Phil Let me know if you ever need to get rid of an older set IE 2006 I need a worldwide set I only have several catalogues of US and classic US. So an affordable reference for world wide even some years old would be a wise investment for me at this point I think

I'm also considering upgrading to 2009 (volume 3) since there were so many price increased due to the drop in the value of the dollar. All my collecting is done in one volume. Lucky? I don't think so. That's why I let Phil talk me into Guatemala along with my Germany.

Hey Everyone.

I Also need some of the catalogues. With me it doesn't matter what year as I use them for cataloguing only. I don't much care for value.

Right now I have the 2006 SO - Z I believe. So anyone selling any of the others I would gladly send them the postage. I beleive I even have some recent unused US I could send.

Laswabbie, like yourself..much of the cream I am interested in Germany,Hong Kong, Italy, Ireland,Guatemala are in the volume 3...Guatemala changed very little from year to year until recently..they issue few stamps and I guess there was little interest but now prices are finally starting to rise !!

Back in my wilder Navy days I asked that question in many a port around the world. But it had nothing to do with my stamp collection. It had to do with the fact that I had no idea where I was because I . . . . well, let's just say that I probably had that famous "one too many."

I must be the poor little puppy left out in the cold and rain. I don't have nor have I ever laid my eyes upon these catalogues you guys are speaking of and from the sound of the prices on them I may never get to lay my eyes upon any of them. Oh well I still got all you good and kind folks on here to help out with any identifying needs that may arise for me.

Cimarron

If you can not find a Catalogue for identifying classic US and want or ever need one I could send one of my older Scott Specialized to you, it would at least help with most identification of US prior to 1980 or so, also includes air mail BOB and UN territories etc
