I obtained a new Antigua stamp, One Penny - pink/red. In my docs I only have a copy of Water Marks 3 and 4, hence I can't be sure of the actual Scott/Michel number. The stamp is slightly hinged on gum, never used. Is there a way to determine the true identity of this stamp. Any suggestions/help is greatly appreciated.
Hawk

If I stare long and hard enough at the watermark, I think I can make out a Crown CA, which would make it either SG 24 if perf 12 (the 1884 issue), or SG 25 if perf 14) the 1884-87 issue.

Is the scan of the back of the stamp right way up? If it is, and if I'm seeing the watermark correctly, it looks like the watermark inverted variety, either SG 24x, currently unpriced, or SG 25x, currently priced only used, at £23.

I couldn't make out the watermark. Can you watermark it?

The quickest way otherwise to narrow the choice is measure the perforation.

Perf 12 -1884 Scott 20 1p rose red wmk 2 Crown and C A ($60+)

Perf 12 1/2 1872 Scott 5 1p lake wmk 1 Crown and C C ($170+)

Perf 14 1873-79 Scott 8 1p lake wmk 1 Crown and C C ($200)

Perf 14 1884 Scott 18 1p carmine wmk 2 Crown and C A ($2+)

Looks like a Perf 14 to me.

Suspect (Because tonymacg saw a Crown and C A) Scott 18.

(Edit: But if the wmk is inverted, then worth more)

I tried to improve the image of the back of the stamp. I used a signoscope T2 to identify the watermark. Included is what I came up with along with a few lines of what I can recognize. It is a Perf 14. Thanks again.

The Crown and C A watermark (wmk 2-Scott) should look like the upper left one....

I still don't see it though.

Again, I want to thank you for your help. I took a chance and used lighter fluid to show the wmk and it turned out to be wmk Scott-2.

Hi All

I have a copy of the is stamp but the watermark is to the extreme left and only half of the crown is present and the C and one of the down strokes of what looks like an A.
Is this common.
There is a number on the back, which is a pencilled three, but I do not know if that is a catalogue number or what.
Regards
Horamakhet

No SG number fits, but Scott 3 is 1867 1 p vermilion with a star watermark. (Same as SG 7 ) Could your wmk be part of a star?
