Hello, I know this is a Russia Sc# 237 but the Scott catalog doesn't show this stamp with a surcharge or overprint. I think the overprint translates to In A, kon 1 kon, Gold, but I could very well be wrong. Does anyone have a catalog number for this overprint?
Many thanks as always
David

Hi David,

Scott lists this as Far Eastern Republic #66 and SG lists it as Siberia (Soviet Union: Issue for the Far East) SG 127.

Just thought I'd translate the overprint, if you're still interested:

The top letters are actually the Cyrillic D. and V., which I presume stand for Dalniy Vostok (that would translate into "Far East"). The kop. in the second line is an abbr. for kopeyka, so the denomination of the stamp is 1 kopeyka. And you got the last part spot on! Zolotom (instrumental case) translates roughtly as "in gold".

There ya go - a little Russian 101 for philatelists!
