I have a few of the different shades, particularly of the 1/2d green and the 1d red. After looking at them for a while, they all blend together. You can see from the post above that the color differences are for the most part very subtle. If you go to this link you can pull images of various shades of the 1/2 d green (and other denominations) https://www.stampsforsale.co.uk/cod...ps.asp?t=10.

Hi Selva (and everyone else). I feel your frustration regarding colour variations. Run into that myself with a number of Canadian and US issues.
If I may add my 1 1/2c (to make a full 2c worth) many ebay listings use the word 'rare' like adding extra salt to your salt and vinegar chips. It's thrown out there to attract buyers attention and unfortunately has come to mean very little. Really unnecessary, and I think dishonest, but they use it anyway. To be taken with a grain of...well...salt.

Very nicely put jamesw.

In my 2005 GB Concise there are only 6 basic shades listed, leaving out the Olive and Cobalt versions I believe. perhaps this has expanded over the years as more study has been done?

Wow Horamkhet! Thanks so much for posting that article. I am not sure if I can identify what I have and didnt realise there were so many shades of these.
Yes Selva, I did think there might be a third in there. I am 'assuming" the ones that form the "cross" are all the same shade.
Did you mention this happens with the reds too rohumpy? That is a great link you posted and I bookmarked it.

James not so frustrating but infact interesting. Would anyone like to post the shades they have?

Thank You

Ann

My green King George stamp is in 3/4 profile All the pictures I see are full side view. Does this make it rare?

No - that's the first design, which preceded the full profile, which was deemed more attractive.

janb - the 3/4 profile of KGV was just another issue. Came out in 1911 - 1912. In and of itself, a 3/4 profile isn't rare either.

bah. too slow, sorry for giving duplicate information. I'll add, though, that imho the 3/4 profile was more attractive. LOL

The "rare" halfpenny stamp posted originally is unlikely to be the elusive SG 355 cyprus green as, to the best of my knowledge, I don't think it has been spotted in a used condition. If it is designated "rare" it more likely be SG 397 as that is reasonably rare in that the watermark is the multiple royal cypher and could be easily checked.

Hi
Just reading this topic and wondered if anyone has come across a turquoise-blue version of this Royal Cypher ˝d stamp. I have a used and a mounted mint example and can't seem to find any info on it anywhere?

It is highly unlikely that your turquoise blue stamp exists without outside influence... sunlight, chemical or other such forces. Even this Blue-Green halfpenny stamp retains its "green-ness".

As it has been such a long time since the stamps were printed I'd have expected a variety such as this to have been seen before now.
If you wish to post a scan of your two turquoise stamps together, it may assist others to see any differences in shades. To me your stamp looks like powder blue. Remember that all scanners and monitors show different shades... differently

Hi all

about a year ago, I posted a chart that showed all the green colours of the KGV, so maybe someone downloaded it, or I will search my archives, and see if I can find it, and repost.
