Hi All

I have had this laying around for some time mainly because I find it difficult to mount <G>.

It is a box of E.B. Eddy No.1 Telegraph Sulphur Matches.

The most interesting part is that there is a 1 cent orange War Tax stamp on the box. Also note that the original matches are still in it and this box was prodeced during World War One!

Wow that's awesome! Why do they call them "telegraph" matches? Anyone know?

You had to ask...so here's the answer:

By the way, Eddy's Matches have been around for awhile (well before World War I) as this period newspaper ad will attest:

Here's another part of the story, that of Ezra Butler Eddy, the founder of the E.B. Eddy Match Company:

Thanks again wt1

I have added the information into my files so that I can use it as 'collateral' information for my revenues.
