No matter how hard I try I keep making mistakes when listing and packing.

Packing I am averaging 1 mistake every 750 lots or once a month.

Listing I am making 1 mistakes per 1000 listings.

ebay is making up to 4 listing mistakes per 75 listing or 1 day. I catch most of them but still let 4 go per month or every 2000 listings.

Have had 2 buyers that will not do any more buying off me because of a stamp missing from their order.

How do you feel when a seller makes a mistake with your order?

A mistake filling an order can certainly occur once in a while. If you expiditiously correct the mistake at no extra expense to the customer, then I don't see any big problem. If a customer experiences several mistakes in a short period of time, then there is cause for concern on the customer's part. For myself, I would not forgo the opportunity to purchase a wanted item due to one mistake in the past.

Mistakes happen, especially when you are talking that sort of volume. I made one mistake sending stamps sold on ebay (neglected to include a few) but immediately emailed the buyer and sent them separately. He understood.
And I received the wrong stamp once, but again when the seller was informed, he quickly apologized and offered to make restitution. I hardly think it's cause to boycott you though. Crap happens.

It's not the mistake, its how its handled/resolved.

One error per 750 shipments seems like a great record to me. Don't beat yourself up.

Quick tip: After you list a large number of items, run through all the listings on ebay within the gallery view to make sure each item has a working photo. I host my own photos ( ebay picture service is for the birds) and if an item has more than one picture I add suffix letters to the picture number. Occasionally, I'll leave off that suffix letter or add one where not needed and I won't have a gallery image. A quick view will let you know if you messed up.

I also use the same picture number per item as the item number in my own organization of listed stock. I can right-click the photo in the description to get that number and quickly find it in the stock. I also verify the pulled item with the picture on the screen. Since I've been using that system for a number of years I haven't had any problems of missing or sending the wrong item.

ebay sometimes will scramble the ebay item numbers in the invoice which can make it a pain when it comes to long invoices. It will make picking a bit longer as none of the personal numbers will be in order. Delcampe is much better at keeping things in order.

I still make the occasional error and to err is human. It's going to happen. Just correct them as you find them and hopefully find them sooner than later. I like it if a buyer messages me about a mistake in my listing as well as it can be hard to catch everything and I know I don't know everything.

Side note: About 9 years ago I sold a mint copy of the U.S. $2 Harding Prexy stamp. I listed it as mint never hinged, but I didn't see that it was really mint very lightly hinged. After I got it back from the original refunded buyer I could see that it was indeed very lightly hinged, but you had to have the right light at the right angle to see it - couldn't even see it with a regular back scan. I relisted it as mint lightly hinged and it actually sold for a lot more than the first time around. Go figure.

I agree - don't beat yourself up, that sounds like a pretty good record to me. Personally I would judge a seller more on how they respond after a mistake has been pointed out. We're all human, errors happen, but I would hope most buyers understand that and give a little leeway - assuming you rectify the mistake asap. Are you getting negative feedback after the errors, or are folks generally OK once the problem is fixed?

From a buyer's perspective my main gripe is items not correctly described - a recent purchase of supposedly MNH stamps contained more than 50% that were MH - Sellers excuse was "I didnt check the items before I posted them to you" - My thoughts on reading that excuse was not very polite - Obviously they werent checked when they were listed as well - Refund was provided so I didnt lose out but the chances of me purchasing again from that Seller are minimal - Mistakes do happen but sometimes there can be an obvious "couldnt care less factor" - This doesnt apply to you KGV - Your mistakes appear to be genuine and shouldnt be of real concern to you

KGV, we all agree that given the number of transactions you perform, there are going to be the odd error/mistake. It is how you deal with the error that is important. I just finished communicating with an ebay seller over a stamp being misidentified in a small lot. The seller quickly responded to my communication and offered to try to find a replacement stamp or provide a partial refund. I was completely happy with the sellers response and will continue to deal with this person.

Thank you all very ,very much!

That is very nice to have that support.

It gets a bit isolated here at times.
