Hi there!

I was wondering if I could get help ID-ing these stamps, I can't find them in the catalog that I have. I'd just like to know the value of each stamp. Thanks!

Just name them 1-6.

Thanks for any help!

Hi.

#1, #3, #4 & #5 are from the Australian state of Victoria.

#2 is a British revenue for foreign bills of exchange, drafts etc.

#6 is from the Australian state of New South Wales.

The only Great Britain is the purple / mauve Foreign Bill 2p stamp, which is a revenue type of stamp so would be in a revenue stamps type of catalogue also, if someone has one of those.

The others are Australia states, Victoria and New South Wales.

Victoria 2-1/2p blue (ripped corner) Postage Due 1901 $5 fine but damaged maybe 25c or 50c.

Victoria 1d Stamp Duty (scribbled cancel) - possibly (not sure the catalogue I have doesn't show eveery picture of every stamp) 1899-1900 yellow $375 used wow.

Victoria 1884-1900 Stamp Duty 2d Mauve $5

Victoria 1899-1900 1d Brown Stamp Duty - $5
Possible Brown on Pink $20 used(don't ask me! only a basic catalogue and no experience).

New South Wales 1890-92 1/2d Grey ?? I can find ones with a OS overprint but nlot the regular issues. Defective catalogue! lol

And of course those are general prices only.

The value depends on how it looks, any damage, eye appeal, etc to the one collecting. On revenue stamps like the GB Foreign Bill or the Victoria Dtamp Duty stamps a written cancel is a good thing. On a regular stamp to a regular postage collector it is a bad thing sometimes.

I would repost those Victoria stamps (especially the yellow) and call the title Victoria, Australia something and get some Aussie experts in on these also. My catalogue is very general and doesn't cover any details at all. Just to make sure, a second opinion is all.

Alright, sorry for the wrong title, but my first sorting put them under Britain. In my opinion they looked a bit like the other Britain stamps.

Thanks for your help so far Puzzler! I will definitely re-post the yellow one!

They are all British Commonwealth stamps so it's OK.

Hi Puzzler,

I think you're getting a little carried away with pricing!

My catalogue is a bit out of date (2009 SG Part 1) so I'm sure the catalogue prices have gone up a bit...

1. The 2½d blue Victoria stamp is SG 388 from 1901 (not a postage due) price 35p used, but no value with the corner torn off.

2. The 2d Foreign Bill revenue stamp is Barefoot Foreign Bill #74 from 1871 with minimum price.

3. The 1d green Victoria revenue stamp is Barefoot #55 with minimal value (10p in my old 1996 catalogue) but it has a damaged corner and is creased.

If this had been postally used it would have been SG 312 yellow-green price £1.50 but is worth much less used as a revenue.

4. The 2d violet Victoria stamp is SG 314 or SG 335 price 10p to 20p.

5. The 1d brown-orange Victoria revenue stamp is Barefoot #68 with minimal value (again 10p in my old 1996 catalogue).

If this had been postally used it would have been SG 313 or SG 332 price 10p to 30p but worth less used as a revenue.

6. The ½d New South Wales stamp could be one of many starting with SG 271 (which is grey but most are blue-green) onwards with prices from 20p upwards depending on shade, perforation, type and watermark.

I apologize for my misleading post above. I truly thought I had it mostly right and doubled checked the $375.

This was from a 12th edition of Rennik's Australia catalogue which I think I either misread grossly or has some fanciful pricing in it. Most of the Australia stamps themselves (not the states) are priced OK. Sorry.
