i think subconciously I am distancing myself from the world wide collection...Eight Scott International albums..you buy a set or a few singles and they seem to disappear into a bottomless pit ! I think topics make more sense at this point..if you have two or three good topics you can usually find material to keep you interested..and with world wide albums, say I buy an International album with several hundred or thousand stamps..its always the same countries represented...Great Britain, Germany,Japan,Hungary etc..i will find whole gaps of empty pages of areas that do not appeal to the average collector..better to spend my time and energy and few bucks where they do the most good !!

Phil Although I have world wide stamps they are in glassines, I have never been a worldwide collector I have always collected US and now my tangent Guatemala collection. I have also sorted stamps into topical categories, I usually use my worldwide stamps for trade or to just pass on to collectors who want them. |

Ok, Rick..well I certainly could build you a decent Guatemala collection from my duplications...need some idea of what you have pre 1970 to trade...not sure how we would go about that ???? phil |

Phil
I will have a better idea in the weeks ahead as I get the stamps I have now sorted and catalogued and mounted in the album. I have a few bids in on some small collections also. I am sure we can work something out? what do you need? also I am giving some thought to joining the Guatemalan Society |

Phil So what topical are you going to collect? Penguins? You mentioned you like penguins. Between my Cardiology on Stamps and Death on Stamps collection, I've got the topical section of my collection covered. David |

David I have two bulging binders of Penquin stamps and covers. I have to admit I am behind on my modern Canada..i soaked some stamps and souvineer sheets yesterday..i purchased a page of pre cancels at the post card show that averaged 5 cents apiece..i find that acceptable..and I am not totally committed..but interested in fungi..which could lead to a botany lesson somewhere..enjoy your days off !! |

Hi Phil, I would suggest staying with a world wide collection if you enjoy the suprise of new and different places of countries that produce(d)stamps. FRom what I gather, your complaint is the album(s) you are using. I would suggest that you go to a blank album and organize it in such way that it suits you and that every page is completed in a fashion that pleases you. You can have as many stamps or as few stamps on page as you see fit. You can have as large or small write up, typed or handwritten as pleases you. It seems that you have let the the publishers dictate how you should collect. That's not necessary. Joel |

I've never understood how someone could put together a worldwide collection unless he or she limited it to 1950 o something like that.
I can understand your frustration Phil.
It would be good to get together! Every once in a while, in a quiet moment, I think about trying to organize something at a major event somewhere in the geographic middle of all of us. |

How about posting some pics of the "Air Mail" sections of some of your albums? I really enjoy seeing them.
